These sponges absorb water, remain wet for a long time and do not dry out, because you wash dishes several times a day. Almost immediately after starting to use, they lose their appearance and become shabby and flattened.
I mostly wash dishes with terry cloths. Or I take disposable ones, which are sold in rolls.
For more stubborn stains, a metal sponge is suitable.
I recently remembered how my mother washed dishes with tulle rags. She folded several layers into a small square and stitched them with thread. And instead of a scraper there was a bent square of mosquito net; in those days it was metal, there were no traces of plastic.
