Hamburger steaks with onion gravy

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:

a. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, chopped parsley, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix everything until well combined.

b. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval or round hamburger steak patties.

c. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the hamburger steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set them aside.

2. Make the Onion Gravy:

a. In the same skillet, add the butter and sliced onions. Cook the onions over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes, or until they become soft and caramelized.

b. Sprinkle the flour over the caramelized onions and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

c. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Continue to cook and stir until the gravy thickens, which should take about 5-7 minutes.

d. Season the onion gravy with salt and pepper to taste.

3. Finish the Dish:

a. Return the cooked hamburger steaks to the skillet with the onion gravy. Spoon some of the gravy over the steaks.

b. Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for an additional 10 minutes to heat the steaks through and allow the flavors to meld.

4. Serve:

a. Place a hamburger steak on each plate and spoon the onion gravy over the top.

b. You can serve this dish with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dishes. It’s also great with some steamed vegetables or a side salad.

Enjoy your homemade hamburger steaks with onion gravy!
